Hey. I’m Kaitlin. I grew up immersed in fine art, picking up a paintbrush at the age of 3. I didn’t put it down for 15 years. When I did put it down, that was that. I was trying to say something, but at the age of 18, had no idea what that something was. Awhile later, I went to University, and focused on writing and critical analysis. My interests lie in people, place, culture, and the weird ways those things meet in the middle. I wrote a historical thesis on Canadian grocery chains and how they came to exist and grow through the power of branding and advertising. In that time, I felt like something was missing, so I learned how to use my camera, rediscovered film photography, and leaned hard into that medium. I learned what it meant to use a visual medium as a story-teller, and as a tool to communicate ideas.
I like communicating stories and ideas through visual and written methods. What that means exactly, I’m still figuring out. In the meantime, I make photos, write, edit, and style and design production sets. I do these things in efforts to continue the practice of story-telling, and to help others communicate their ideas.
